The one that sticks out most in my mind is Brad Pitt. Can someone name me a blockbuster hit he's made? Has he even been nominated for an Oscar? I can't recall but I do know he's talked about all the time, but Will Smioth makes all the hits.
I actually think Will Smith as an actor has shown some really great promise but if you look at his entire body of work, it's more fluff than substance. Other than Ali, Pursuit of Happyness and Six Degrees of Separation his other flicks are movies that anyone can do (he just has the drawing power). I think one of the most overrated is Keanu Reeves (although he doesn't get as many gigs as in the past). I concur Brad Pitt is right up there too.
Actually, Brad Pitt is a respected actor and has been since the early 90s. In addition to being a former Oscar nominee for Best Supporting Actor -and Golden Globe Winner- in 12 Monkeys, he's consistantly had a long string of blockbuster:
THELMA & LOUISE
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE
LEGENDS OF THE FALL
FIGHT CLUB
SNATCH
OCEAN'S ELEVEN
TROY
MR. & MRS. SMITH
OCEAN'S TWELVE
BABEL
OCEAN'S THIRTEEN
No offense, man, but he makes $20 million a picture because the majority of his films gross at least $100 MILLION. Some people may see him as being overrated due to Pitt frequently being in the tabloids. But he's one of the few A-level stars in Hollywood that, besides doing big budget films, will take a pay cut to make an independent feature.
